Database Engineer Specialist

Work you ll do

Perform database administration and troubleshooting of the Oracle and SQL Server database systems. Support Oracle 11g, 12c environments and support both DataGuard and Active DataGuard. Performs data task support large RAC based data systems and support Oracle products within an Exadata environment. Performs database engineering and tuning, operations and support with Oracle systems residing on UNIX / Linux platforms. Performs maintenance of SQL Server systems within a Windows 2010 2016 environment.

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of technology consulting or other relevant industry experience

  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision and guidance

  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with experience exercising mature judgment

  • Proven experience effectively prioritizing workload to meet deadlines and work objectives

  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly, succinctly, and in a manner that appeals to a wide audience

  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation creation tools, as well as Internet research tools

  • Proven experience effectively prioritizing workload to meet deadlines and work objectives

  • Experience working with business users to gather requirements, writing functional and technical specifications and communicating technical requirements


  • Degree in computer science, information systems, or other technology-related field

  • Ability to translate requirements into design specifications and experience in developing design documents

  • Knowledgeable in software quality concepts such documenting source code and software language specific code quality practices

  • 4 to 10-years database administration experience with ability to execute Oracle installs of Oracle software and apply Oracle release patches and perform database upgrades.

  • Ability to troubleshoot searching log files and conducting research, knowledge of SSL protocols during the transition of database traffic between systems with understanding of SSL certificates and using Oracle Wallet Manager to generate certificates.

  • Must have previous Linux and Windows experience within an Oracle 11g, 12c and SQL Server 2008, 2010 platform.

  • Experience with Oracle RAC and knowledge of Oracle ASM and SAN Storage of data files

  • Ability to conduct query tuning and explain plans with knowledge and ability to troubleshoot performance issues and ability to work with developers.

  • Knowledge and ability to perform system backups and refresh and store database systems with data from backups.

  • Solid knowledge of restoring individual tables if needed due to data corruption or data loss and understands performance monitoring tools such as Enterprise Manager and query optimizers.

  • Ability to create and restore indexes, good understanding of query and data loading using parallelism and basic understanding of networking protocols between database VLANs

  • Oracle related certifications including OCA, OCP, OCM, OCE, etc., Microsoft MCSA, MCSE, etc., and Security related certifications desirable
