Work you ll do
Manages the development of enterprise level solutions to facilitate automated, consistent, efficient, and standardized orchestration of IT processes. Manages technical direction and end-to-end delivery of IT automation initiatives to address business needs, and lead these projects to successful implementation. Improve existing processes and/or develop new processes to improve efficiency where needed. Manages the interaction and coordination among several different groups within the product development lifecycle including Operations, Development, QA, Support, and business teams. Possesses in-depth knowledge and cross-functional understanding in the areas of scripting (PowerShell, bash, Jscript, VB.NET, Ruby, Python, Perl), data center infrastructure (network, storage, server hardware), cloud platforms and virtualization technologies, IT process automation and orchestration tools, Public Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud), secure software development lifecycle, Windows/Unix server administration, and web services (REST, SOAP). Performs a combination of supervisory duties over work staff. Prioritizes tasks and assigns team members to ensure that the team s resources are used effectively and that project deadlines are met. May serve internal or external clients:
Focuses on providing research, development and support in the area of self-service provisioning, private/public cloud and IT process automation.
Devise and implement automated workflows to reduce the time to provision infrastructure, reduce manual effort for repeated maintenance tasks, resolve commonly occurring break-fix incidents faster and without the need for manual intervention and prevent problems and outages from occurring through more consistent/predictable delivery of services.
Coordinates requirements gathering, solution design sessions, implementation plans and Proofs of Concepts.
Defines technical evaluation criteria for vendor products and solutions and determines technical approaches to ensure all architectural solutions result in an efficient systems design.
Analyzes emerging technologies in the area of automation/orchestration/cloud and influences direction of project solutions.
Develops business cases showing proposed value of automation and estimated return on investment, followed by regular collection of automation metrics to demonstrate cost/time savings.
Partners with ITS business representatives and business leaders to understand business drivers and critical needs. Ensures alignment between the business strategies and application technology roadmap while advising and consulting leadership on costs, benefits, and implementation requirements.
Possesses exceptionally strong software, system and network troubleshooting skills.
Continue pursuit of knowledge of automation tools, configuration management tools, and infrastructure management tools through seminars, webinars, technical publications, and product evaluations.
Responsible for architecting, implementing, maintaining and upgrading orchestration and self-service tools.
Establish and maintain IT process automation methodologies, documentation, and resources (ie. script repository).
Design, develop, implement and maintain a cost effective, long-term IT automation strategy and roadmap promoting reusable components, low maintenance costs, high efficiency and scalability.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
