About The Team

We know that Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) are important for businesses, so whether the focus is on shaping sustainable investment strategies, realizing value through the implementation of sustainable transformation strategies to drive shareholder (and broader stakeholder) value, or proactively assessing Sustainability - Climate & Equity risks as part of due diligence, we support clients from start to finish.

Our Sustainability M&A Consulting Services team focuses on embedding Sustainability across the deal cycle - including Sustainability-led fund and portfolio level strategy development, assessment of deal targets with strategic Sustainability due diligence, post-transaction implementation of Sustainability strategy and initiatives, and supporting the articulation of Sustainability driven value creation upon exit.

What will your typical day look like?

As a core member of the team, this role will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Support on Sustainability due diligence engagements (sell-side / buy-side) for corporate and private equity clients and assist with developing Day-1 readiness plans

  • Contribute to Sustainability-led strategies, targets and initiatives at the Fund, portfolio company and/or corporate levels to drive value

  • Contribute to advice on growth opportunities along with new products and markets emerging from the uptake in Sustainability-driven innovation

  • Support on Sustainability portfolio assessments

  • Through business develop and client work, proactively gains technical expertise across the following areas, where relevant:

  • ESG regulation and standards

  • Climate risk and opportunity assessments

  • Greenhouse gas emissions measurement and abatement opportunities

  • Sustainable supply chains

  • Environmental and health and safety legislation

  • ESG governance and controls

  • Support the delivery of large-scale Sustainability-driven transformation activities

  • Support practice and business development activities e.g. through the development of thought leadership material

    Qualifications

    Required

  • Bachelors or Masters in Sustainability, Commerce, Finance, Engineering and/or Science

  • 2+ years of professional experience (or equivalent) in at least one the following:

  • M&A / deal lifecycle experience, including Sustainability due diligence in the context of broader financial and operational transaction due diligence

  • Design, implementation and communication of Sustainability strategy and/or responsible investment strategy

  • Broader professional services, including management consulting or corporate finance

  • A solid understanding of how investors, regulators and analysts review and use ESG information to inform their decision making

  • An informed understanding of current and emerging ESG issues

  • Ability to travel 50%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve

    Preferred

  • Familiarity with climate related disclosure and target-setting standards/ frameworks, including TCFD, SBTi, GHG Protocol, PCAF, CDP, SASB, and GRESB

  • Understanding of climate change policy and regulatory landscape

  • A desire to support new business opportunities

  • Strong problem solving, business diagnostic and analytical skills

  • Good organizational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritize effectively

  • Experience operating and communicating with senior level stakeholders

  • Good communication skills and an ability to work across multiple clients/projects and drive progress and results

    The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $119,000 to $219,000.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
