Background:

Deloitte has launched a new social innovation organization called the Deloitte Health Equity Institute (DHEI). DHEI is a data-driven pro bono services, philanthropic, and knowledge development hub within Deloitte's Center for Health Solutions (DCHS). DHEI draws on Deloitte's array of capabilities to activate health equity across the United States, helping to realize our firm's Purpose by moving the field for public good and advancing equitable health outcomes at scale.

To achieve our aspiration, DHEI is focused on addressing three root causes that prevent equitable health outcomes: 1) Racism and bias inside and outside the health care system, 2) Deep inequities in non-medical Drivers of Health, and 3) Structural flaws in the health system. To drive change across the three root causes, DHEI is focused on activating key decision makers to accelerate change, strengthening local ecosystems to advance equitable communities, and driving health equity innovation and learning across the US.

DCHS develops and publishes insightful content to support Deloitte's Life Sciences & Health Care Practice (LSHC). The goal is to create market opportunities by engaging clients and prospects in the health care system with thoughtful and useful perspectives on emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities. Content created by DCHS is published and deployed as research reports, blogs, and an internal newsletter for our practitioners.

The team includes researchers, policy experts, and marketing and operational professionals, working together to develop and disseminate valid, interesting, and useful content to support the LSHC practice's positioning in the market. DCHS is one of seven research centers that form Research & Insights, part of Deloitte's Clients and Market Growth function.

Position:

The Health Equity Research Manager works with the DCHS Director, Research Leads, Policy Team, the DHEI Director, and other key LSHC industry/sector leaders to develop and execute on health equity research content. As a key member of the DCHS research team and the DHEI team, the Health Equity Research Manager will contribute to the advancement and quality of research/thought leadership and support key goals of DHEI in the marketplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct primary research (including surveys and qualitative interviews) on health equity trends and topics for research publication.

  • Conduct analysis and evaluation of economic, policy, and other impact of health inequities and health disparities for research publication.

  • Use academic rigor and methodology required of public health and health services research.

  • Pursue new research areas, using DHEI's strategic priorities as a guide, that can be translated into hypotheses and identify data sets (public or private) that could help test those hypotheses.

  • Collaborate with a network of Deloitte's LSHC and Government & Public Sector leaders and practitioners, other Research & Insights research Centers, and other industry leaders and practitioners to understand the practice's strategic priorities in these areas.

  • Serve as a skilled advisor and subject matter expert in key collaborative research relationships and with practice leadership regarding current health equity policy and literature.

  • Manage project-based research teams of junior research professionals, including project management of the team, responsibility for timely achievement of research milestones by the team, and review/feedback of work by junior team members.

  • Prepare reports, research papers, abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations, summarizing research findings from studies or projects assigned.

  • Present research effectively to a variety of stakeholders at academic, professional, and client meetings.

  • Collaborate with external partners on research and publications.

This role is evolving, and opportunities to expand responsibilities and take on more challenging tasks will be readily available. A high degree of flexibility and ability to handle ambiguity and changing priorities are required.

Education/Experience Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate BA or BS.

  • Master's degree in public health, economics, epidemiology, health policy, sociology, health care administration, or business preferred

  • At least 5-8 years professional experience

Research Qualifications:

  • Experience with designing and conducting academic level research

  • Familiarity with the latest health equity policies and literature

  • Understanding of health equity, social determinants of health and other social sector issues

  • Commitment to bring an active anti-racist perspective and DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) lens

  • Ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights and a compelling narrative

  • Proficiency in statistical programming (R, Python, Stata) and diverse multivariate statistical methods with large, complex medical data sets

  • Experience with focus group research and human-centered design approaches

General Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical, research, and project management skills

  • Strong ability to communicate strategy to an executive audience and external stakeholders

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize activities and manage to aggressive deliverable due dates and workplan

  • Proven leadership, teaming skills, and stakeholder management skills

  • Track record of high performance; consultative and strategic mindset; ability to navigate ambiguous circumstances and complex structures

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
