What you ll do

As a Manager on our Multistate Tax team, you will help guide new ways to leverage technology to address the state and local tax needs of our clients in areas of compliance, provision, and planning. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Identifying ways in which technology tools (ETL, automation, visualization tools, etc.) can be applied to projects.

  • Managing or collaborating on technology-enabled projects involving multiple team members from Multistate Tax, other areas within Deloitte Tax, and the client.

  • Implementing tax technology tools.

  • Assisting clients with their evaluation of their current processes and data flow surrounding tax technology tools and helping them implement improvements.

  • Training clients and Deloitte professionals on how to use the tax technology tools implemented, and supporting clients with their use of tax technology tools.

  • Supervising assignments carried out by Consultants and Senior Consultants; helping develop and motivate engagement staff; and providing leadership, counseling, and career guidance.

  • Identifying and effectively communicating project status and tax technical/service issues to the senior management team, including Partners, Principals, Directors, and Senior Managers.

The Team

Deloitte s Multistate Tax Services (MTS) group is the largest State and Local Tax (SALT) practice in the United States with more than 1,000 professionals nationwide . Our Multistate Tax professionals include former state tax auditors and administrators, industry personnel, tax practitioners, accounting specialists, and technology personnel with numerous years of multistate tax experience. Collectively, our team has significant experience with the requirements and nuances of jurisdictions in all 50 states. Our specific services include state income and franchise tax, indirect tax, business restructuring, credits and incentives, sales and use tax outsourcing, excise tax, property tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5 years experience in tax, accounting, or corporate environment

  • Solid, deep experience with data extract, transform and load (ETL) tools as Alteryx and data visualization tools (i.e., Tableau, Power BI, Click)

  • Big 4, tax software firm, or equivalent experience

  • Management experience

  • Bachelor s degree in computer sciences and/or business or economics

  • A passion for innovation, tax transformation, and an entrepreneurial spirit

  • Strong interpersonal skills and executive presence

  • Ability to participate in all aspects of engagement strategic planning initiatives

  • Strong research, and written and verbal communication, skills

  • Available to travel up to 60% of your time

Preferred:

  • CPA, Enrolled Agent, or other professional certification

  • Advanced degree such as MST, MAC, or LLM

  • Experience with tax provision and compliance software such as Corptax, ONESOURCE, and/or Vertex

  • Experience with robotic process automation tools
