Deloitte Insights Senior Consultant in Chicago, Illinois

Doblin, a Deloitte business, is seeking expert design researchers to join our New York and Chicago studios. We are looking for audacious, ambitious experts to bring game-changing insight to our teams as we create future products, services, and experiences - and stretch our discipline with new ways of thinking and working.

As an Insights Senior Consultant, you will be integral to our multi-disciplinary teams. You will use empathy and deep research expertise to bring informed perspectives that challenge the status quo as we develop human-centered solutions to complex challenges. Work You'll Do

Relentlessly curious, always empathetic, and deeply appreciative of the complexities of our world and of the human condition, our Senior Consultants are masterful at looking beneath the surface to uncover, distill, and communicate insights that inspire change and drive transformation.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Shape and lead your team's research agenda by planning and executing research activities, selecting suitable methodologies to uncover and validate human and business needs

  • Guide your team in developing provocative insights by synthesizing complex qualitative and quantitative data and exploring their implications for the ideas and solutions we develop

  • Communicate insights and recommendations in ways that shift perspectives of our teams and our clients to spur innovation and stretch their ambition

  • Encourage your team to apply actionable insight across the design process, including concept and business model design, and launching and scaling solutions in-market

  • Design and co-facilitate engaging workshops with internal teams, clients, and other stakeholders to share and explore insights and generate new solutions

  • Lead junior team members to synthesize key trends, sourced data and insight from Deloitte's global network of industry and domain experts, to amplify the impact of your team's work

  • Apply your expertise across industries and at multiple levels of ambition, while exploring new and impactful ways to get to insights

  • Contribute significantly to the development of client pitches and intellectual property, including informed perspectives on our discipline and the industries we serve

  • Develop as a leader within a like-minded community of design researchers, local and global, with incredible opportunities for mentorship and career growth

Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate degree or equivalent experience in social sciences or another insights-related field

  • 3+ years of relevant experience conducting research in a business context (agency or consultancy experience preferred)

  • A portfolio demonstrating examples of research work and outcomes, including discussion of how insights were generated and applied

  • Willingness to be based in New York or Chicago

  • Ability to travel at least 60% (while at least 60% of travel is a requirement of the role, due to COVID-19, non-essential travel has been suspended until further notice)

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future

Preferred:

Tradecraft

  • Expertise in developing research plans that combine qualitative and quantitative methods

  • Mastery in leading in-person and remote interviews and observations, as well as designing and facilitating participatory design activities

  • Clear expertise in synthesizing data into compelling, actionable insights and recommendations

  • Rigorous planning, organization, and documentation skills

  • An instinct to infuse empathy and behavioral analysis into all aspects of your work and advocate for it within teams and with non-designer colleagues

  • Superior written and spoken communication skills that elevate the impact of our teams to our clients, and our work to their business

  • Demonstrable comfort with the ambiguity of working in and defining unknown spaces

  • Significant experience working in dynamic conditions that require fast iterations and rapid transitions between collaborative and individual work, including in Agile teams

Team development

  • Skill in building rapport and durable relationships with clients

  • Willingness to assume a leadership role in Doblin's insights community, guiding junior team members as we push the boundaries to advance our research discipline

  • Ability to provide actionable feedback, support and mentorship to junior researchers on your team and within the practice
