Salesforce Marketing Cloud Technical Architect

The Marketing Cloud Technical Architect is a subjectmatter expert around Salesforce Marketing Cloud systems, data, coding, API, andintegrations. He/she provides leadership to achieve specific technicalobjectives for implementations and managed services projects. The technicalarchitect is responsible for leading technical requirements gathering andarchitecture sessions with clients and project teams. The technical architectcollaborates with a solution architect on functional and technical design specifications while providing subject matter expertise to theproject team and developers throughout the engagement. This is a hands-on rolethat requires significant technical experience and abilities with SalesforceMarketing Cloud and related cloud technologies.


Own implementation tasks from initial planning andrequirements analysis, through design, development, testing and deployment.

Conduct technical process reviews, design sessions, andother architecture meetings

Document current state technical processes and run gapanalysis between current state and desired future state

Design, develop, and document solutions to meettechnical requirements, including the subscriber model and data flow between SFMCas well as other systems

Support the development team in executing technicaldesign and customizing the platform, including: AMPScript, SSJS, tSQL, dataextensions, advanced triggers, and automations

Work with clients to shape technical architecture anddefine and scope projects to address specific needs

Judge the tradeoffs with technology and feasibility andmake choices that fit the constraints of the project

Provide subject matter expertise to internal teamsduring sales and delivery processes


10years of experience in ahands-on technical leadership position

At least 3 years of hands-on experience buildingtechnical solutions for and integrations with SFMC

Advanced understanding of marketing automationtechnology including SFMC ecosystem, data models, common integrations andthird-party technology solutions

Demonstrated ability to architect, build and executedata feeds, platform configuration, and components needed to run complex multi-channelmarketing automations and related reporting & analytics

Extensive experience with all primary elements ofMarketing Cloud: Email Studio, Content Builder, Journey Builder, AnalyticsBuilder, Personalization Builder, and Audience Builder

Deep understanding of data, data extensions, data relationships,and ability to translate customer requirements to the use of their datathroughout their marketing automation ecosystem

Full understanding of out-of-the-box SFMC functionalityand able to propose and estimate more advanced solutions based on clientrequirements.

Knowledge of API integration with CRM platforms and Webproperties

Experience with front-end development, Pipelines, JSControllers, Demandware Script, ISML templates, script debugging,troubleshooting, and performance management

Development experience using HTML/CSS, MJML, Ampscript,Java, JavaScript, jQuery, SQL

Hands on experience with email and landing pagedevelopment, including templates, modular and responsive design


At least 5 years of consulting and/or client-facingroles

Understanding of agile and waterfall developmentpractices

Ability to lead and facilitate workshops, technicalrequirements gathering, and design sessions

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Team leadership experience managing resourcesresponsible for marketing automation projects

Excellent oral and written communication skillsincluding technical documentation and the ability to conceptualize andcommunicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences

Willingness to travel up to 50%

Certified in Salesforce Marketing Cloud and/orMarketing Cloud Consultant
