Deloitte Marketplace Intelligence Research Manager in Alexandria, Virginia
The Audit & Assurance Marketplace Intelligence group (Marketplace Intelligence) is a small team within Deloitte's Audit practice responsible for delivering market intelligence to our audit professionals and leaders through cutting-edge web-based applications and insightful research and analytics.
The team consists of highly skilled researchers, data analysts and developers. Our work is critical to support leadership strategic decision-making and enable excellent client service and growth of our Audit and Assurance practice.
The Marketplace Intelligence team is looking for an experienced Researcher to join our team to prepare research on companies, executives, competitors, market assessments and special research topics.
The position will provide an excellent opportunity to build your network, develop relationships, increase exposure to audit leadership, and be a part of a team within a highly strategic focus area of the Audit Practice. You will be able to access premium data sources and use your intellectual curiosity to develop new insightful research that drives strategic decisions.
Research: Prepare research and presentations to increase client service professional's business knowledge, build business relationships, inform audit leadership; this includes:
Preparing background research on companies, C-suite executives and board members, industries and markets, and competitor activities
Compilation, production, and delivery of weekly topical newsletters
Prioritizing and coordinating research projects with a small team of other research professionals
Providing research guidance/training as needed to internal clients and colleagues
Assist in identifying, evaluating, and recommending new data sources to meet the needs of our audit and assurance practice
Project management: Act as project manager for certain significant projects, coordinate and track all significant work streams, manage meetings and report to team and leadership on progress
Research application support: Data quality, accuracy and integrity is paramount to every aspect of Marketplace Intelligence work - our applications, research deliverables and reporting. Attention to detail is critical. The Research Manager will:
Assist the development team by conducting research to troubleshoot occasional vendor data issues,
Participate in testing applications to validate data/information
Provide input in the design and content selection of research applications
Participate in the development of new products and/or product improvements to meet the needs of the audit business
Develops a deep understanding of the applications in the Marketplace Intelligence portfolio
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field
5+ years of relevant experience
Experience with research databases and web-based information tools, and knowledge of SEC filings, financial markets, and familiarity with company ownership structures (i.e., public, private) is necessary
Experience performing project tasks independently, and sometimes with little direction within a virtual team environment
Project management skills and the ability to work effectively and collaborate with all levels in a large, matrixed organization
Participate in and/or lead development of deliverable content that meets the needs of the client
Skeptical mindset - always questioning accuracy - never assuming - and taking ownership of results
Pedantic attention to details to ensure high quality deliverables
Ability to foster teaming and collaboration

Excellent written and oral communications skills
Microsoft Office skills, particularly with PowerPoint and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of the audit process and audit firm business
Master of Library Science (MLS) or equivalent degree preferred
