Work You ll DoAssist clients to manage state tax liability and such challenges as states with unique tax laws, the enforcement focus of state departments of revenue, the growing number of audits, and increased merger and acquisition activity. Prepare tax returns. Services include business restructuring, credits and incentives, sales and use tax, sales and use tax outsourcing, state income and franchise tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy. Provide compliance and consulting projects for corporate and partnership clients. Identify complex tax issues and provide tax analysis for a variety of entities and their affiliates. Primary responsibilities include overseeing complex tax research projects for clients in diverse industries as well as researching and analyzing a wide range of tax issues such as deferred tax liability issues and tax implications of financing techniques for a variety of entities and their affiliates. Offer unique insight into the many factors affecting taxation, including the tax policies that drive state tax legislation and understanding the technical nuances that may create compliance exposure. Assume tax-planning responsibilities for corporate and partnership clients. Supervise assignments by the professional accountants serving as Tax Consultants. #LI-DNI RequirementsBachelor's degree (or higher) in Accounting, Taxation, Business Administration, Finance, or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent).Eighteen months of experience preparing and reviewing tax returns, state tax controversy, estimates, extensions, and provisions for corporations and partnerships in multistate jurisdictions.Experience must include eighteen months of:Applying knowledge of core state tax concepts, including nexus, allocation and apportionment, state tax base, state tax withholding, and entity level taxes;Preparing complex tax technical memos, responding to Information Document Requests (IDRs), Notices of Proposed Assessment (NOPA) and various tax notices, and liaising with tax authorities;Preparing client s income tax provision for purpose of preparing the financial statements in accordance with accounting for incomes taxes under ASC 740 on a quarterly basis;Participating in auditing the income tax provision for attest clients, and providing income and franchise tax consulting, tax planning, state tax audit defense, and income tax accounting services for multistate companies;Utilizing tax research tools, including CCH, RIA Checkpoint, BNA, and LexisNexis, to research complex state and local tax issues;Utilizing tax preparation software, including Corptax, GoSystem, ONESOURCE, and SuperForm, to prepare Corporate state and local tax returns;Calculating clients state quarterly estimated tax and tax due with extensions, and preparing estimated state tax payment vouchers and extension forms;Preparing, reviewing and processing state and local income and franchise tax returns for corporations and partnerships based on varying state regulations;Working directly with clients to address tax compliance and in-house state tax issues, including state notices, state audits, and tax return processing; andAssisting with project management for large client engagements, and leading and mentoring junior team members.Position requires approximately 20% travel.
