Pharmaceutical Benefits Consulting Manager

Work You ll Do:

Deloitte is seeking health care plan professionals with a deep knowledge of employee group benefits, specifically the pharmacy benefit, and experience working with plan sponsors to develop and maintain overall health care strategy, negotiate with health plan and PBM vendors, conduct market selection activities, negotiate the contractual terms and conditions with health plan and PBM vendors, develop and maintain benefit plan designs, and understand pricing and premium development. Candidates with the ideal knowledge and experience will work within our health plan and PBM practice providing advice, guidance, and recommendations to Deloitte health plan and PBM clients to capture additional market share while retaining their existing book-of-business.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Deliver high-value health care solutions by collaborating and innovating with health plan and PBM providers to determine optimal benefits and service offerings for health benefit plans Utilize knowledge of relationships between health plan and PBM providers to grow their business and effectively service their customers Provide value-added consultation on healthcare transformations, plan benefit analysis & design, pricing benchmarking, pharmacy operations and go-to-market strategy for specialized pharmacy products Apply industry expertise to develop successful marketplace strategies for new benefits markets and assist in creating and driving optimal benefits packages Consult with clients on a wide variety of complex pharmacy and broader health and group benefits projects Use expertise to drive health plan provider, pharmaceutical and PBM knowledge within Deloitte s Life Sciences & Health Care (LSHC) practice Participate in setting engagement objectives and scope, designing deliverable content to precisely reflect the engagement contract and client needs Strive to improve customer deliverables and overall quality through verification and validation of operational activities and outcomes Provide industry knowledge to teams, lead multiple project work-streams and small engagement teams or components of large, complex engagements Responsible for business development efforts including Statements of Work (SOW), proposal development, client presentations, etc. Lead and contribute to practice development initiatives including culture-building, internal community involvement, eminence, recruiting and whitepapers, etc. Act in a mentoring capacity to support the career development of Life Sciences & Health Care colleagues

Minimum ten (10) years of professional experience in the health plan industry, specializing in health plan benefits administration with deep knowledge of employee group benefits, specifically the pharmacy benefit Minimum two (2) years of professional consulting experience, focused on the health plan industry and pharmaceuticals Bachelor s degree from an accredited university with strong undergraduate academic record Ability to travel between 40-80% of the time


Advanced degree in MBA or MHA Demonstrated professional success advising, developing and managing group pharmacy benefits for large, complex clients with increasing levels of responsibility Healthcare actuarial experience and/or certifications are a plus Strong intellectual curiosity and desire to understand latest developments affecting pharmaceuticals and health benefits plans Previous experience mentoring, training and developing junior members of the team; experience in employee performance reviews Previous experience in project planning, budget oversight and staffing of project teams including time management Strong oral and written communication skills, presentation skills and MS Visio, PowerPoint, Excel and PowerPoint proficiency Superior critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills Exceptional interpersonal, team-building and communication skills Outstanding integrity, initiative, creativity and passion Ability to work in an ambiguous environment Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment Preferred Deloitte office locations include: Minneapolis, New York City, or Chicago
